The three viewpoints give each lead a distinct concern. Jory carries responsibility for her people, Ky balances compassion against his fearsome reputation, and Asher must decide whether he can escape the work that keeps him alive. Attraction among all three develops alongside the threat against them.
Some alliances and romantic developments arrive quickly, but the central dilemma is strong and the political stakes are easy to follow. This adult romantic fantasy opens the Braided Fate trilogy and leaves several betrayals unresolved.
