“OMG the banter in this book is off the charts.”
OMG the banter in this book is off the charts. I was in the backseat of an Uber laughing out loud while reading it.
This book is a slowburn slide from enemies to something riskier. Aurienne Fairhrim is a brilliant healer in the Haelan Order, sharp, capable, and clearly operating on a people are dying, I don’t have time for your nonsense schedule. Then Osric Mordaunt shows up, a Fyren assassin who’s dramatic, cocky, irritatingly charming, and carrying a nasty magical problem that basically forces him into her space.
The FMC and MMC clash on every level. Professionally and morally they are opposite sides of the spectrum, and this often leads to a hostility that delivers the best one-liners. Their conversations are full of sarcasm that actually lands. Thus the laughing in an Uber.
Osric’s interest become visible before Aurienne's so it has that he fell first vibe. The political mess that surrounds them lends itself to an us against the world vibe that feed my intrigue.
I finished it entertained and invested. The romance has that will they won't they energy that keeps pages turning. The ending felt a little rushed and I wish it would have drawn out a little. None-the-less, I look forward to seeing where this story takes us.
