“Are you reading Threshing Day?”
Fourth Wing was a cultural phenomenon for me: a genuinely fresh fantasy experience with Basgiath War College’s brutal beauty, organic worldbuilding, and Violet’s journey from physically fragile scribe candidate to unexpected dragon rider. Her bond with Tairn and the electric, slow-burn enemies-to-lovers tension with Xaden were especially moving.
Iron Flame took that and shattered it. Violet evolves, turning vulnerability into power, and Xaden’s darkness and devotion become more of a revelation. I loved the deeper moral shades, the treacherous politics, and how the book left me in beautiful ruins.
Onyx Storm wrecked me again. Violet’s impossible choices beyond Navarre, the high-stakes action, and the messy, complicated devotion with Xaden made it an emotional rollercoaster. My only tiny critique was that the dialogue sometimes got choppy with too many characters jumping in, but I was still completely invested.
