“Reading God of Fury a second time reminded me how much I love Brandon and Nikolai.”
Reading God of Fury a second time reminded me how much I love Brandon and Nikolai. The tenderness between them is what makes this book so good for me.
Brandon’s struggles with his mental health and self-worth felt painfully real. He works so hard to appear in control. I appreciated the care given to his understanding of his sexuality, and how his art helps him express himself.
Nikolai is violent, possessive, and often completely unhinged. He’s also open about his feelings. I loved that he recognizes Brandon’s vulnerability and cares for him without making him feel ashamed of it. That made me think about masculinity and the strength it takes to let someone see you struggling.
The idea of loving someone enough for both of you stayed with me. Nikolai loves the parts of Brandon that Brandon can’t accept, and I found that incredibly moving.
It’s dark and very steamy, with plenty of danger and family conflict. But I was most invested in Brandon beginning to believe he could be loved. This is one of the most beautiful love stories I’ve read.
