“I’ve cried more with this series than with a lot of books written for a more mature audience.”
The Crave series by Tracy Wolff is another series that helped start my reading journey. Her books are YA, but they’re incredibly well written and they draw you in.
What I really loved was the character development. You have this cast of friends who all bring different strengths and personalities, and they band together for these grand adventures that push them. They each have their own stories, and you become invested in everyone.
And these stories are not without tragedy. Being in a magical world doesn’t mean everything turns out the way you want it to. I’ve cried more with this series than with a lot of books written for a more mature audience. There’s so much depth to these characters that you want everything for everyone, and that just can’t happen.
Then there’s the world building and the magic. Tracy’s imagination is off the charts. Even years after reading the series, I still feel this is one of the most unique worlds I’ve experienced as a reader. Everyone brings a different type of magic and a different personality. To me, that’s a great reflection of life and diversity. Their differences matter, and they all have things to contribute.
I also had the chance to meet Tracy at an author event a couple of years ago, and she was lovely. That has nothing to do with the review, but I felt compelled to tell her how important her books were to me. This series helped ignite an excitement for reading that I hadn’t had before, and I’m incredibly grateful for that. I would wholeheartedly recommend it.
